OUR MISSION

The MPRA is an association of retirees that promotes the interest and welfare of its members and communicates activities that are of common interest to the municipal retirees in the Municipal Pension Plan.

In addition, the organization provides an opportunity for members to meet on a regular basis and for other purposes as established by the membership.

The MPRA is your voice in what happens to your Pension. We speak on behalf of all retirees with the Board of Trustees on the Pension Board to try to keep the benefits that you already have.

We were instrumental in:

  • lifting the Cost of living cap
  • getting the MSP premiums reduced
  • free ferry service (excluding some routes) for Seniors 65 and older Monday-Thursdays (excluding some statutory holidays)
  • successful in advocating for the shingles vaccine to be covered or reduced effective Jan 2021
  • plus Government funded MSP 100%.

The MPRA is hoping to increase our Membership to 20,000 members as a goal so that the government, the union of BC Municipalities and the Union Leadership will support us.

These parties need to know the ideas and issues of our retirees and with a larger number of members,  we can present a stronger voice.

2024 Cost of Living Adjustment

“2024 Cost-of-Living Adjustment: The board approved a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to regular pensions in pay of 3.89 per cent, effective January 1, 2024. This is the equivalent to the increase in the Canadian consumer price index (CPI) between September 2022 and September 2023.”

We want to thank the Municipal Pension Board of Trustees for recognizing the impact of the increasing Consumer Price Index on retirees in making this decision.
